Ben Gross was the best possible tutor we could have imagined for our son. Ben truly got to understand our son as a person and played a meaningful role in our son's acceptance to our first-choice college. We cannot recommend Ben highly enough; we were incredibly lucky to find him.

Why invest in tutoring for your gifted student?

Gifted students are often overlooked in today’s overcrowded classrooms. With limited time and resources, schools tend to focus on helping struggling students catch up—leaving advanced learners bored, disengaged, and underchallenged. Many gifted students earn high grades with little effort, but never develop the study habits or intellectual resilience they’ll need later in their academic careers.

Without meaningful challenge, even highly capable students can lose interest, grow anxious, or withdraw from the learning process. Eventually, they reach material that doesn’t come easily—and without the right preparation, they may not know how to handle it.

Dr. Benjamin Gross offers tutoring specifically designed for gifted and advanced students in math and physics. His approach goes beyond homework help or test prep. With over 20 years of experience in academic research and gifted education, Dr. G creates a learning environment that is intellectually rigorous, responsive, and deeply engaging.
As an online STEM tutor, Dr. G uses high-tech tools to create a dynamic and interactive virtual classroom. He is known for blending humor with depth, making challenging material feel accessible while encouraging students to think independently and ask meaningful questions.

Students explore advanced STEM concepts—often years ahead of the typical curriculum—while building the skills and confidence to tackle complex problems. Lessons are customized to match each student’s pace and interests, making the experience both enriching and sustainable.
Working with Dr. Gross is our son’s favorite day(s) of the week and his favorite hours of the day. His sessions with Dr. Gross are genuinely filled with laughter, thoughtful struggle, lots of equations and ultimately the feeling of accomplishment and growth.

Here's what people are saying...

Dr. Gross was recommended to us by our Coach for Gifted Children (Dr. Paula Wilkes) when our son was only 8 years old. Dr. Wilkes recognized our sons’ unusual ability to grasp mathematical concepts well beyond his years. When I would hear the two of them “laughing” and making math jokes while learning college level math ideas, I realized we had found the perfect match for our son. We have been under Dr. Gross’s tutelage for 4 years now and our son just took the AP test for BC Calculus. Dr. Gross is serious about math, but he is a light-hearted soul, with a great sense of humor, who REALLY cares about our son, and his emotional well-being, as well as his math proficiency. Dr. Gross has been a role model and an inspiration; not only for our son, but for our entire family. We hold Dr. Gross in the highest regard, and consider him part of our family.
Working with Dr. Gross is our son’s favorite day(s) of the week and his favorite hours of the day. His sessions with Dr. Gross are genuinely filled with laughter, thoughtful struggle, lots of equations and ultimately the feeling of accomplishment and growth. Our son knows that Dr. Gross “gets him” and knows that he will be understood, challenged and guided through the wonderful journey of learning.
Ben's love of math is infectious. He is gifted at identifying the unique potential of each student and working to realize that potential, whether by building confidence or providing out-of-the-box challenges that inspire young people to believe in themselves and in the beauty of math. My daughter and my son were exceptionally privileged to work with this marvelous mathlete and humane (and humorous!) human being.
As a gifted education consultant and advocate, Ben and I share a number of clients. Highly gifted students are often very asynchronous in their development and it is not unusual for these students to need math instruction many levels above their agemates. These students are eager to learn, but are also very young. By bringing fun into the learning process, Ben is able to make the all-important emotional connection required for these students to thrive. This does not mean that he is relaxed in his teaching. Ben's instruction is very rigorous and he is my "go-to" tutor for my highly motivated clients needing higher level math. All that, PLUS his students love his teaching style. I have been told by more than one client "WOW! He gets me."
Lucas has worked with Ben for a little over two years and in that time they have covered a great deal and we have been so impressed. He offers as much support as necessary while maintaining high expectations. He is flexible while requiring mastery. He is creative, fun and reliable and the progress we have seen in both math and physics has been tremendous. Ben has become a truly important mentor in Lucas’ life.
My daughter worked with Ben for her AP Calculus class. She really enjoyed her sessions with him and came away with a much greater understanding of the material. Ben is very patient and good at explaining concepts. I would totally recommend him for anyone who needs help with advanced math - whether for homework, SAT/AP tests, or just to move ahead with learning more.

What makes Ben unique?

Ben grew up as a gifted child, and faced many of the same challenges students today struggle with. His mom had to fight to get the school to accelerate him, and in high school he began taking college classes, but still wasn’t being pushed. In college he double majored in physics and math, where he finally met his match. He quickly realized that he had gained some very poor habits from being bored in school for so many years, and learned how rewarding it truly is to reach for your full potential.

More about Dr. G...

Dr. Benjamin Gross is a seasoned education professional, with over 20 years experience teaching. Ben started tutoring in high school, and during his college years, he taught physics to undergraduate students. In 2015 he opened his full time tutoring practice and specializes in supporting gifted students with a passion for math and science in reaching their full potential.

He has a degree in physics and math from Binghamton University and a PhD in physics from USC, where he studied bacteria that make electricity. (Despite once stabbing himself in the thumb with a syringe full of electric bacteria, he has yet to develop superpowers.)
Ben is passionate about encouraging students to develop a love for learning and discovery, through his unique ability to bring humor and levity to the classroom while successfully engaging students in complex mathematical concepts.

When not in his virtual classroom, Ben spends his time with his wife Anahit and their son Julian in Southern California. In his free time you can find him playing guitar or performing the occasional magic trick.
